Law schools teach us to interpret laws, case law, and legal authors. They encourage us to develop argumentation, counter-argumentation, public speaking, and writing skills, but no one prepares us to deal with people and manage emotions when we are faced with the huge challenge of practicing law.
There’s more to being a lawyer than knowing the law: we need to know how to use it as a tool to establish an emotional connection with our clients. Clients see as much value in the way we convey closeness and compassion as in the resolution of their issues.
Anyone in the legal environment who wishes to develop their emotional intelligence and emotion resilience and management skills to achieve increased personal and professional welfare.
Knowing the reality of our own emotions and how to manage them with wisdom and motivation is key to building a relationship of trust and respect and having the ability to influence the relationship with our client.
