VdA Academia is sponsoring and hosting the Jessup European Friendly Moot Court 2019. The event will be held in Lisbon from February 21 to 23, in partnership with the University of Lisbon Law School.
In the context of the Philip. C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, VdA Academia will be hosting the Jessup European Friendly Moot Court 2019, an interim competition which aims to provide preparation for student delegations ahead of the International Rounds annually held in April in Washington D.C., USA. VdA Academia will thus be receiving at the Vieira de Almeida & Associados Lisbon headquarters at least 20 teams each comprised of up to 5 students, plus coaches and judges in a total of about 170 people. Each team will argue in four preliminary rounds, and then on the final day a semifinal and final round will be held.
The Public International Law case under discussion in this year's competition is named Kayleff Yak and focuses on issues of State liability for the misconduct of national corporations, the protection of migratory species, the right to culture and religion and the right of indigenous populations to benefit from knowledge and tradition.
ILSA - the International Law Student Association - is responsible for the organization and promotion of the competition. Each country participates with its own delegation and in this year’s competition the selected Portuguese delegation will be made up of students from the University of Lisbon Law School.
