The Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award, established by the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation, in partnership with the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, with the purpose of celebrating the memory of Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida, is aimed at disclosing new values and scientific works in several research areas of the Humanities, to be defined in each edition, having a biannual character.
The first edition of the Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award was given by Vasco Vieira de Almeida to Maria Luísa Resende, Ph.D. in Classical Studies, author of the work entitled "The Transmission of Luciano of Samósata in Portugal in the 16th Century", which analyses the transmission of his work based on unpublished testimonies.
The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation and the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (FLUL) are now launching the 2nd edition of the Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award, created with the aim of celebrating the memory of the remarkable citizen and unforgettable FLUL professor who marked the intellectual life of that institution.
This biannual award is open to applications from FLUL undergraduates, masters, doctors, as well as post-doctoral researchers, up to five years after the conclusion of their academic degree or the end of their status as post-doctoral researcher. It is aimed at revealing new values and scientific work in several research areas of the Humanities, and this edition is dedicated to the field of Philosophy.
The value of the Prize is 20,000 euros, to which a maximum of 5,000 euros will be added as a contribution towards the publication costs of the awarded work.
Applications must be submitted by 30 September 2022.
